Rajaji's Message on Inauguration Day 20-09-1953

Any Number of Shadows do not make substance. Any number of desires do not make an achievement. What produces is work. Desires are good, but they must be urges from within and by being prevented from exhausting themselves in expression made to create pressure. Recording and printing that we wish to do this, we wish to do that, we plan for this, we plan for that is suicidal. The record must be only of what we have achieved. Let us avoid finding pleasure in and cultivating a taste for drum-beating and trumpet blowing, It is no substitute for work. A certain foreign style has been alluring us destroying our old tradition of "maun" and quiet service. Am I running counter to the general stream? Iam sorry for that, but someone must warn.
